Skin, acts as the first barrier of defence in our body, keeping away harmful agents. However, constant application of artificial, impure, nutritionally compromised products weakens this essential part of our body. This revelation has caused an increase in the manufacture of Natural, Organic, Herbal and chemical free beauty and skin care products.
A product with additives like preservatives (usually parabens), artificial fragrances, impure talc, can cause something as small as rash or even increase your risk of crossing paths with serious health hazards.
‘Clean beauty’ is a go to term used for special organic, and natural skin care. Clean beauty necessarily implies, those products which not only consider human health but also environmental health. It is tricky to be able to produce purity and longevity in the same product, but, it is harder to switch from adulterated to organic and pure products. These milder yet powerful agents let our skin breathe and add an extra shade of beauty without having any injurious effects.
We at Greenspa, a natural beauty and skin care brand took it in our stride to make magic. Through research we found out that numerous such products can be made. We learnt that for every need there is a solution with a specific natural ingredient. That motivated us to create more and more products to address a variety of requirements. We ended up exploring the possibilities of making handcrafted products and we found our communication line – Handmade Natural Cosmetics.
Natural and organic cosmetics are greatly influencing and changing the dynamics of cosmetics. The first term that comes to our minds when we think about cosmetic products, is “beauty”, but, an increasing number of consumers expect to find sustainable, environmentally friendly and ethical qualities in the cosmetics they purchase. Natural and organic cosmetics fulfil all of the above mentioned concerns, as they are a part of their core values and are committed not only to human wellbeing, but also to the protection of the environment and biodiversity.
Selecting ingredients is an art. We are sensitive about the ingredients that we choose. Regarding ingredients sourcing, collaboration between natural beauty brands and local farming communities support the social and economic development of such communities.
With the raw material at our disposal and having carefully devised our formulations, we ended up creating a vast range comprising of handmade soaps, facewash, facepacks, creams, lotions, shampoos, hair conditioners, hydrating gels, lip balms, lip scrubs and foamless shaving gels etc with several SKUs to address various needs of the consumers in every product segment. Maintaining the quality is also a huge responsibility when it comes to natural and pure products. Our developmental team keeps a watch on the latest trends and is engaged in creating new products.
But, why switch to natural cosmetics from conventional cosmetics? There are a lot of reasons to justify this question.
An Environmental Working Group (EWG) study from 2006 found that the great majority of cosmetic products contain known carcinogens, reproductive toxins and various other harmful chemicals that cause serious diseases like cancer. Lipstick or lip gloss wearers ingest around 24-83 milligrams of it per day. Natural lipstick or lip gloss contains no such ingredient that can be labelled a carcinogen. They are absolutely safe.
The average woman uses 10-15 different cosmetics daily containing over 515 different synthetic chemicals. Anything made in the lab is an experiment. Most of them unsuitable to be used o the human skin. In short term use, one might not see the hazards of these chemicals but, long term use can result in damage. Natural cosmetics, on the other hand, do not cause any damage.
Perfume contains around 400 different ingredients. Many of these are classified as hazardous waste by the US Environmental Protection Agency. ‘Fragrance’ on an ingredients list could hide hundreds of chemicals that can harm your health. Cosmetic companies have the right to withhold the ingredients in fragrance from the consumer as it is considered ‘proprietary ingredients’. Natural cosmetics are devoid of such harmful agents.
Formaldehyde is a preservative that is usually found in around one in every five cosmetic products. These cosmetic products can release small amounts of formaldehyde into the air shortly after they are applied. (think about smelling your favourite shampoo, hairspray or scented moisturiser) Formaldehyde is most dangerous when inhaled. This harmful chemical does not form a part of natural cosmetics making them all the more attractive to conscious consumers.
More than half of children’s bath soaps, shampoos, lotions, and other personal care products tested by the group Campaign for Safe Cosmetics (CSC) were found to contain 1,4-dioxane and formaldehyde, according to a report released today. Both are known carcinogens. It is therefore, essential to look at the ingredient list on the cosmetic product you buy. Avoid, rather eliminate products where you doubt the presence of any of the above mentioned chemicals. The best thing to do is switch to natural cosmetics. A natural cosmetic, devoid of chemicals on any sort, does not cause any harm.
